The results of the Swedish land allocation competition

In September 2022, the municipality of Norrköping invited participants to a land allocation competition for innovative housing within the Ankan neighborhood in the Inre Hamnen district of Norrköping.

The competition is part-financed by the innovation authority Vinnova and has been arranged in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology and Halmstad University. The competition program has been reviewed by Sweden’s Architects.

The background to the competition is a need to develop innovative solutions to meet the sustainability requirements in architecture and construction as Norrköping grows. In order to meet contemporary challenges, the municipality also needs to become a driving force in the local transition to sustainable construction.

The jury has unanimously appointed a winner and ranked the other submitted proposals. The jury’s statement is a recommendation before the offer of land allocation after necessary political decisions.

The winning proposal comes from Preservia, Kian Properties AB, Moelven Byggmodul AB, Kaminsky Arkitektur, and Mareld Landskapsarkitekter

The juri citation: “With a powerfully cohesive expression, the development meets the small site at Norra Promenaden and invites you in with its basement floor with shops and bollards, pushed in from the façade to add a semi-private part, here furnished with, for example, a bench.”

The second place: Sveafastgheter AB, White architects, E.ON Sweden AB, and the Royal Institute of Technology.
